The activity
Legambiente Sardegna is a non-profit association. The activities are the result of the voluntary commitment of hundreds of citizens who, with tenacity, imagination and creativity, work to keep attention high on the environmental emergencies of our region.
Legambiente Sardegna has 11 Circles, 6 Environmental and Sustainability Education Centers, and several groups of members active in their respective territories.
Since its establishment in 1998, it has been equipped with a Scientific Committee made up of more than 40 experts and technicians from different sectors of activity; combining broad participation rooted in the territory with a concrete scientific approach to addressing problems, to develop constructive proposals, is the characteristic that makes our association unique and its action effective.
Since 2021, Legambiente Sardegna also operates through its Youth Coordination, which brings together the boys and girls enrolled in the various circles, dialogues with other youth associations in the regional territory and with the Coordinations of other Italian regions, supports youth engagement especially through climate change projects, and manages social media communication.
Mission
Legambiente Sardegna works for the defense of the environment and human health, natural resources, animal and plant species, historical and cultural heritage, for the protection of territory and landscape; in favor of lifestyles, production and consumption based on eco-development and a balanced and respectful relationship between human beings, other living beings and nature.
According to its statute, Legambiente operates through various methods, all characterized by educational paths for children and young people of school age, youth and adults, convinced that training and education are fundamental for the development of a widespread ecological consciousness.
Future objectives
The Association is committed to all themes of ecological transition, particularly energy transition.
Goletta Verde, the Energy Forum and the Ecoforum on Circular Economy are among the main appointments of the coming months, together with the projects carried out by the Environmental and Sustainability Education Centers managed by the association.
Contribution to the Biodistrict
Legambiente is convinced that organic and biodynamic agriculture allow for reducing the presence of dangerous synthetic substances, ensuring, together with good agricultural practices, the provision of ecosystem services, biodiversity protection, and the healthiness and safety of the products obtained.
More and more companies have understood the benefits of the agroecological model, integrating characteristic aspects of this model into their productions. Organic agriculture, moreover, is the one that has proven most suitable for marginal and mountainous inland areas, the only one to develop successful formulas where instead the phenomenon of field abandonment has spread.
Through its thematic campaigns, making available the ability to develop scientifically based analyses and positions, Legambiente commits to promoting organic agriculture and agroecology as a model to be privileged, focusing on further development and qualification of agricultural surfaces and encouraging advanced paths of innovation and territorial cooperation.
In the context of the Biodistrict, Legambiente will develop a methodology to measure the ecological footprint of companies and define the potential of organic agriculture for environmental sustainability purposes.
